Bebashi - Transition to Hope Headquarters

A new HQ in West Philadelphia provides access to high quality healthcare, health education, and social services.

Bebashi Transition to Hope is working with Studio 6mm to relocate their operations to a new home in West Philadelphia.  This social services focused, non-profit agency’s mission is to empower Philadelphia’s LGBTQIA+ Black and Brown community to enhance the quality of their health and overall well-being by providing access to culturally sensitive high quality healthcare, HIV/AIDS services, health education, and social services.  Bebashi’s new facility will house a variety of programs including spaces for a food pantry, wellness center, a health clinic, pharmacy, a cafe, and administrative offices.  Finally, a Trans-Necessities Boutique will offer a safe space where persons of trans experience, or gender non-conforming individuals, can have free access to gender affirming items they need to authentically express their gender identity.

During the design process, the architects asked Bebashi’s team to describe how they see themselves situated in the city. The Executive Director described their team and work as being “like a bag of skittles - we’re sweet, we’ve got one of every color in the rainbow, and we make people’s day’s brighter.” The design team used this description as a launching pad for the design work.

Studio 6mm was engaged in all stages of the relocation process from developing a program of current vs. future needs, through test fit studies assessing the viability of potential spaces, to design, through construction. Bebashi moved into their new home in the spring of 2025.

This project and Bebashi’s good work has been featured PHL17, WJBR Radio, WDAS Radio, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and The Philadelphia Tribune.
